Why Austin Kleon Gets Invited to Speak at TED, and I Don't.

I recently got turned on to Artist,Writer and Speaker Austin Kleon as a source of inspiration ( thanks, Artist Sally Binard). While he is inspiring, and gets a lot done, I found myself contradictoraly responding with jealousy instead of action that he gets invited to speak at Google and TedX ,and I don't.

Maybe its because he is a powerful visual communicator, and I'm not. Check out his site. And he did inspire me enough that I wrote him an email asking for a list of all of his tricks so that I could do a better job at Sharing My Excitement for Scientific Exploration. Here's what it said....

Katie says that while she'll find it difficult to hold up the "Peace" sign the entire length of Patagonia, she'll try.

I believe I'll follow this new blog by Nat Geo writer Katie Worth As she attempts to pedal her way north from the very south of South America.

Phong Savath, UXO Victim turns Concert Promoter

The "We Are Kind" Concert in Vientienne, Laos will raise money for other victims of Legacy Bombs from the Vietnam War.

Remember our friend Phong Savath (aka Peter Kim), from the movie Bomb Country? This irrepressible young man hasn't let the bomb that took his hands and sight stop him from pursuing his dreams, and the evidence is in the upcoming concert that has been his labor of love for years, and that he described to me when I first met him at the COPE center .

The concert date is approaching soon, and with Aqua Survey as one of its sponsors, Garrett Hayes and Haig Born departed today for the Lao Capital to film the action. I look forward to following via the We Are Kind Facebook page

A Selected Life Bibliography, Pondered While Book-less in South East Asia

Being in Laos without a book has had its up-side. I've been learning the language, and working on photography, whenever not busy with work. But not having a book with me has caused me to reflect on the books that influenced me enough to have contributed to me being here, in Vientiane, in a musty office full of skulls and bones behind the National Museum. I came up with a list of 3:

When I was 16 I read 'Tombs, Travel, and Trouble", by Lawrence
Griswold, and it changed my life forever ...

Garrett Hayes Will Kick Your Butt!

No, thats not de-caf.

On the surface, Garrett Hayes looks like a nice guy, probably because he is one.

But his video production company, Firm Kick Productions, promises to give you a firm kick (e.g.in the seat of the pants), to help you get your project started.

It worked for me. This blog was Garretts suggestion, and wouldn't exist if he hadn't encouraged me.

Thanks Garrett. Ow!
