I just joined a new project for exploring under the sea, and its really cool.
Its a Hybrid Autonomous Underwater Vehicle development project for a UXO/Shipwreck survey platform capable to 1000 meters depth.
That means its a big robotic fish.
My role includes helping with the development, field testing, surveying, and developing the operations manual.
The "Hybrid' in HAUV refers to the vehicles ability to operate r in fully autonomous mode, running a pre-plannned survey all on its own and coming back with the data hours later, or if you pop on a long fiber-optic cable, you can command it from the support vessel in real time.
the fish itself is about 10 ft long and 900 lbs, and supports sidescan and forward looking sonar, forward and downward video, as well as Magnetometry or EM detection equipment. The expandable payload bay allows for adaptability for scientific exploration under the sea
WHoda thought I'could land a sweet gig like this so close to home?
My Name is Eric and My Job is Scientific Exploration.
That means I'm lucky enough to join expeditions to excavate sunken cities, climb volcanoes, find missing bombs, and Sail old research vessels, while searching for the mysteries of the natural world.
