Attention Marine Geophisics geeks. Innomar's new 4 head High Def tight beam sub-bottom profiler produces 3-d immagery of features hidden in top 5 meters of the bottom. Applications for this new tech seam boundless, but Underwater Archaeologist Franck Goddio has put it to task on the site of a sunken Egyptian City.

I have had the pleasure of working and diving with Bassem and Islam for many years on shipwrecks and sunken cities in Egypt.I wonder what amazing artifacts we might find today?
As the diving begins, I must formulate a strategy on how to out-wit George's desire to conquer the world with Strudel. Gildas apparently is happy about the challenge.
Excavations are well underway on the sunken city known to ancient Egyptian as Thonis, and to the Greek traders that visited as Heracleion.
While the Princess serves as our mothership, the smaller vessels hold pumps and tools that we need to remove the overburden from the archaeological layer. This morning the wind blew from the south, smelling of farm land and spreading a mysterious haze that obscured the horizon and created a warm, luminous glow on the bottom of the sea. Franck Goddio and his team have been together for more than 20 years and have made amazing discoveries in Cuba, Philippines, Myanmar, etc.
I think most adults today are subtily aware that a team of French divers, roaming the world making fascinating underwater discoveries under the direction of a passionate leader, is a thing that ought to exist. That was my perspective when I met Francks team in Cuba , introduced by team member Sue Hendrickson ( of T-Rex fame) I was amazed to find out that such a team existed in reality, and a little surprised that I hadnt known about them before. Now that i managed to sneak my way onto the team, and 20 years have passed and we have had adventures and discoveries and grown up and older as a team, with occasional passings and occasional new blood, I am still fascinated that such a team exists, and with a perspective as the sole american, am absolutely convinced that everyone else should be fascinated that they exist too. So thats what I'll be blogging about for the next few weeks'. After years and years of traveling to Egypt to excavate sunken cities with Franck Goddio's Underwater Archaeological team, I feel pretty comfortable knowing just how many items of clothing and gear are needed. All the dive gear is on board ship already, so all I need is some comfortable clothing and a nice outfit for traveling, and the rest of the space for books and some gifts for my buddies.

My Name is Eric and My Job is Scientific Exploration.
That means I'm lucky enough to join expeditions to excavate sunken cities, climb volcanoes, find missing bombs, and Sail old research vessels, while searching for the mysteries of the natural world. Categories
