The annual Key West Lifeboat Racing Series is intended to get people to test out their emergency gear on an anual basis.

4th Annual Key West Lifeboat Race, an annual event is designed to remind boaters to check
their safety equipment.
The race will start from the dock in front of the To be named waterfront Bar, On the first Saturday in Feb at 12
At the signal Contestants shall enter lifeboat under
emergency scenario, eg with gear stowed and lashed, then propel themselves
around the marker buoy with ours, paddles, or sails and return to the dock. The
race is won on points to encourage contestants to use as much of their survival
gear possible.
To GAIN Points:
First across the finish line; 10 pts
Make Potable water 2 pts
Fix your position without using GPS, eg with Sigler
Navigaton device, 2 pts
Keep an Accurate Log 2 pts
Catch a fish 2 pts
Spend the night at sea 5 pts
Capsize and recover in front of Race Committee 5 pts
Grow a beard 2 pts
Deliver a baby 2 pts
